Let the Games Begin

I should start by saying I've never read the Hunger Games trilogy, but my neice has. She loves them. I will probably read it at some point, but for now I'll just talk about what I've been told.

The female lead is strong, smart, and capable.  It's always nice to see a movie or read a book with a strong female character, but it's doubly nice when it's aimed at a younger audience.  I am blessed to have a family that taught female independence before it was cool or accepted. So while we  love to look at the latest fashion  or make up trends, we also preach education and self-reliance.  From my neice's exuberant conversations, these books promote those same qualities

So,  a large number of my family will probably be at the theater watching a movie about a group of teens fighting to the death on reality tv next weekend. Let the games begin!

  1. I have never heard of the Hunger Games until recently. I was always taught I (women) can do anything they want to. Not very many people have have perception. It's good they have made something for younger girls, so they can see and know that they are amazing and can do anything they put their mind to.

  2. I have not read or seen the hunger games either. I have heard the books are great and I plan on reading them. I do not want to see the movie until I have read the books though. Seeing the movie first always ruins the book for me. I also love that the book is focused on a strong female. I am trying to teach my step-daugther the importance of being a strong independent woman. I love that society is now embracing strong women rather than putting women down.

  3. WOOH!! GO LADIES!! Haha, we're awesome, aren't we?! I just recently realized the strength of a woman watching my sister tend to every last need of her son. I also like the fact that these movies popularize (is that a word?) the books because it makes reading cool, and children actually spend their time reading some. Everyone wants to say that kids these days waste all their time, but the movies make reading something cool, and I like that.
